Custom software for field service and trades operators — intake, dispatch, and the technician's phone

BuildspaceLabs builds custom software for field service and trades businesses — HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, pest control, landscaping, cleaning and garage doors. In practice the work is three things: an intake agent that answers the call and books the job, scheduling and dispatch logic that matches how this particular business actually runs its board, and a technician app that keeps working in a basement with no signal. We build on top of the field service platform you already run — ServiceTitan, Jobber, Housecall Pro, Simpro — using your own API access, and we tell you up front what that platform will and will not let anyone write back.

// where teams get stuck

We start from the failure, not the technology

These are the field service & trades problems the builds on this page were commissioned to fix. If none of them describes your week, we are probably not the right team.

  • Calls ring out after hours and on the second line, and every missed call is a job that goes to whoever answers next
  • Dispatch lives in one person's head, so a single emergency reshuffles the board and nobody tells the customers who slipped
  • The technician app stops working at the edge of coverage — in a crawlspace, a basement, a rural route — and the job data is re-keyed that night
  • Quotes get written on the truck at 8pm, so half of them go out late and some never go out at all
  • The FSM platform holds all the data but will not do the one thing this business does differently, and the workaround is a spreadsheet
  • Nobody knows which jobs actually made money until the books close weeks later
// what we build

Everything on this list is already built

6 capabilities, each one taken from a field service & trades system we have delivered — not a menu of what we could attempt.

  • Voice and chat intake agents that qualify a caller, answer after hours, and book into the calendar or FSM platform
  • Dispatch and scheduling logic built around skills, capacity, drive time and the emergency that reshuffles the day
  • Native iOS and Android technician apps that keep working offline and sync cleanly when the signal returns
  • Integration and data work against ServiceTitan, Jobber, Housecall Pro and Simpro using the client's own API access
  • Quoting and estimating workflows — option sheets, price-book logic, measurement-driven estimates, approval in the field
  • Operational reporting the platform will not give you: per-job cost, membership renewals due, technician utilisation
// questions

What field service & trades teams ask us first

Short answers, each one tied to a system we have shipped. The first is open; the rest are one click.

Do you build on top of ServiceTitan or Jobber, or replace them?

Almost always on top. The platform stays the system of record and we build the layer it does not cover — intake, custom dispatch logic, a technician app, reporting. Integration runs through your own API access and developer account, because these vendors grant access to the operator, not to a contractor on their behalf. Where an API is read-only or gated for a given object, we say so before scoping and design around it rather than pretending the write-back exists.

Have you shipped a field service system before?

Not yet — we have no field service deployment to point at, and we are not going to invent one. The closest work we have actually built is adjacent: real-time fleet and driver tracking with traffic-aware dispatch, offline-first mobile apps for people working out of a vehicle, and an AI front desk that handles intake, scheduling and verification calls. Those are the same three engineering problems this vertical has, in a different industry. Judge us on that and on how specifically we can talk about your workflow, not on a logo wall.

Do you run the AI receptionist for us as a service?

No. We do not resell telephony minutes and we do not operate a hosted answering product. We build the intake agent on a telephony provider and a model provider that you own and pay directly, so the number, the call recordings, the transcripts and the bill stay yours — and you can keep running the system if you stop working with us.

Will the technician app work with no signal?

Yes, and we assume it as the default rather than treating it as an edge case: the app reads from a local store, queues writes, and reconciles on reconnect with explicit rules for who wins when a dispatcher and a technician change the same job. The honest limits are that it cannot show data that was never synced to the device, and large photo and video uploads finish when there is bandwidth, not when the technician taps save.

Can you guarantee we stay compliant with licensing, permits or chemical application logs?

No, and treat anyone who says yes with suspicion. We hold no certifications and we do not offer a compliance guarantee. What we build is the workflow that captures the record at the moment it happens — the applicator and product used, the permit number, the photo, the signature, the timestamp — and retains it in a form you can produce on request. The obligation stays with the licence holder.

What does support look like once it is live?

Business hours, Monday to Friday, IST, with an agreed escalation path for anything that stops jobs being booked or dispatched. The intake agent itself answers at 2am because it is software; our team does not. We would rather set that expectation in the contract than have you discover it during a heat wave.

How does an engagement usually start?

With one narrow slice rather than a platform. Typically that is a read-only integration and one workflow — after-hours intake for a single trade, or the technician app for one crew — so the integration risk and the platform's real API behaviour are proven on something small before anything depends on it. Scope, sequence and what each phase includes are agreed in writing up front.
